Department of Paediatrics, Institute of Developmental & Regenerative Medicine IDRM, Old Road Campus, OxfordA position is available for a highly organised and proactive Personal Assistant with proficiency in diary management and communication to join the Sanders Group, led by Dr. Stephan Sanders, a Professor of Paediatric Neurogenetics, at the University of Oxford. The group focuses on genetic causes of neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders with the goal of developing cutting-edge genetic therapies for these disorders with bench-to-bedside programs that include bioinformatics, functional genomics, neurobiology, and therapeutic development. The team of undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral scientists working with the Sanders Group span Oxford University, the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and multiple international collaborators.The successful candidate will be motivated and organised, responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of Dr. Sanders’ activities as Principal Investigator (PI) of the Sanders Group. This includes meticulously managing Dr Sanders’ diary, exercising initiative to navigate international scheduling complexities, prioritise meetings, and mitigate conflicts effectively. The candidate will be tasked with orchestrating complex travel arrangements for Dr. Sanders, members of the Sanders Group, and visiting collaborators both domestically and internationally.Beyond administrative duties, the successful candidate will actively contribute to fostering a conducive research environment within the Sanders Group, facilitating effective communication among colleagues, documenting research environment compliance, coordinating small group events, and assisting in lab member recruitment efforts. Moreover, the individual will play a pivotal role in building and maintaining successful working relationships with senior academic and administrative personnel across various academic institutions, ensuring seamless collaboration.As Personal Assistant, the candidate will handle a diverse range of inquiries on behalf of Dr. Sanders and the Sanders Group, prepare meeting agendas, and provide comprehensive administrative support on financial matters, including raising purchase orders and managing expense reimbursement processes. The individual should strive for continuous improvement in organisational efficiency and departmental effectiveness in all areas.Diversity is a core value of our university, department, institute, and research groups. We encourage applications from trainees of all backgrounds.About the applicantThe ideal candidate should have extensive experience supporting senior managers as a PA in a complex environment, with a preference for experience in an academic setting. They must show proficiency in diary management, minute taking, and preparing meeting materials, with strong organizational and multitasking skills. Effective collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders is essential and the candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as high computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office tools. The ideal candidate must possess excellent time-management and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to handle challenges calmly and independently. Meticulous attention to detail is important, alongside the ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
