PhD in Engineering – Metrology for cryogentic electronic devices and Systems

About the Project

Start Date: ASAP

The School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow is seeking a highly motivated graduate from the UK or overseas to work on an exciting 3.5-year PhD project with immediate start, generously funded by a world-leading company in the relevant field. The selected candidate will work on measurement techniques on and solutions for Cryogenic Low Noise Electronic Devices and Systems :

Cryogenic electronic devices, such as transistors and low-noise amplifiers, play important roles in various applications, including quantum computing, superconducting electronics, and low-temperature sensors. This aspect of the project offers candidates the chance to work at the forefront of technology and science including understanding the physics of compound semiconductor devices operating at cryogentic temperatures e.g. < 77 K and how advanced cryogenic characterisations can address the issues or improve the device performance. The successful candidate will engage in experimental research to design and fabricate cryogenic devices, conduct detailed characterisation and analysis of device performance at low temperatures, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate cryogenic devices into larger systems, and disseminate research findings in top-tier scientific journals and international conferences.

Requirements:

A 1st or 2.1 class degree with relevant experience or a master’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or Applied Physics

Strong background in experimental research, particularly in device fabrication and characterization techniques.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

This is an exceptional opportunity to be part of groundbreaking research that promises to shape the future of technology. Apply now to be considered for this exciting PhD opportunity.
