We are recruiting a Pig Farm Manager for a family-run farm in Suffolk (NR34).The family-run mixed farming business has arable and pigs on an outdoor breeding unit (bed and breakfast). There are 1100 sows, breeding-to-weaning, on a 5-week batch system, fed with auto feed dispensers.The Pig Farm Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the unit.Duties will include:

  • Responsible for covering all areas of pig husbandry and production
  • Responsible for farrowing, weaning, serving and gilt selection from the GP herd
  • Responsible for a team of four

Person specifications:

  • Experience in managing a pig farm and team is preferable
  • Keen, enthusiastic, practical and hardworking individual
  • Adhering to high welfare standards and health and safety regulations
  • Good attention to detail and focus on performance
  • Good awareness and knowledge of record keeping and understanding of computerised herd records
  • Driving licence
  • Ability with tractors with front loader & straw chopper
  • Telehandler (preferred to hold rough terrain telehandler ticket but not essential as this could be obtained

Salary guide : £40,000 – £50,000 DOEPlus:

  • 35 days holiday (including bank holidays)
  • Breeding performance-based bonus
  • Workplace pension

Hours:39 hours, weekend rota every 2nd weekend.
