Job Description:If you are an experienced Planning and Materials Manager looking for a great opportunity to grow, Emerson-Appleton Group Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for you! Based in our Elmira, ON location, reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible to own and deliver the supply chain strategic roadmap for Appleton Group Canada. You will lead, develop, implement, and run supply chain activities to improve the service fill performance to our customers; Lead the complete planning, procurement and materials supply process; and be responsible for the procurement of all materials required by Appleton Group Canada, ensuring that standards for quality are consistent while achieving lowest possible purchase costs. As well as ensure achieving important metric target achievement as it relates to your area of responsibility.IN THIS ROLE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE:PLANNING FUNCTION
- Have the ability to implement new business strategies with strong change leadership skills. Learn how to achieve successful strategic change and innovation.
- Lead the development of master plans for the execution of mid-to-long term production strategies in partnership with Sales and Operations teams
- Lead the translation of Sales forecasts into production forecasts, ensuring material resources, production schedules, materials availability and production plans.
- Data analyze for productivity, customer demand, performance, schedule adherence, and forecast accuracy ensuring oversight of inventory management for raw materials, ingredients, and packaging. Track, analyze, and report on capacity and provide regular updates and status reports to management.
- Lead continuous improvement opportunities for supply chain processes and inspire changes.
- Provide oversight to the ERP planning system from Sales forecast development through plant scheduling and shop-floor orders while developing schedule recommendations per capacity, allocation, product transfers, fill rates & costs.
- Hold regular team-based meetings to review backorders, inventory aging reports, ETO orders, etc.; Evaluate business risk and work for strategically sound resolutions while providing insights and predictive analytics to support business decision making.
- Coach, mentor, and trainer of all Supply Chain team members to improve performance and to develop and retain high-potential employees, leading all aspects of daily processes for effectively operations
PURCHASING FUNCTION
- Lead vendor selection and purchase sources, evaluating market conditions and driven pricing; alternative materials and sources, in conjunction with the buyer prepare and issue purchase orders.
- Safeguard forecast accuracy targets and analysis of gaps and opportunities in line with financial plans. Responsible to meet Financial Review Inventory turns.
- Develop ongoing purchasing strategies and identify process cost reduction opportunities while upholding quality of all goods purchased by the Company.
- Work closely with Planner/Scheduler, Buyer and Production Supervisors to plan material requirements ensuring appropriate purchasing records.
- Develop professional and diligent relationships with all vendors.
DELIVERY SCHEDULING, EXPEDITING AND SUPPLY CHAIN TRADE COMPLIANCE:
- Initiate actions to ensure timely receipt of purchased materials to support both production and customer requirements. Build links to maintain a high level of service and quality.
- Ensure expedite raw materials, maintenance supplies, safeguard on time delivery and continually refine the shipment forecast.
- Review and follow up on special orders that historically had long time backlog.
- Schedule incoming freight and co-ordinate Intracompany truck for pickup and delivery as required.
- Ensure supply chain trade compliance as defined by Emerson.

You anticipate land mines and plan approaches accordingly. You follow through on commitments and make sure others do the same and are completely on top of what is going on and know where things stand. You set stretch goals and objectives, pushing individuals or teams to perform at higher levels. You orchestrate multiple activities simultaneously to accomplish a goal and adapt quickly to changing resource requirements.FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:
- Degree or Diploma or equivalent experience in Supply Chain Management or industry related (Purchasing, Procurement, Logistics)
- 7+ years’ proven experience as Planning and Materials manager in Manufacturing set-up: Supply Chain Management, Inventory Control, Full Cycle Planning. Purchasing and Forecasting
- Excellent hand-on abilities within ERP/MRP: Oracle (preferred), SAP, or other top Enterprise Resource Planning systems
- Advanced ability to perform forecast to planning analysis: demand trends, inventory usage, seasonal putdown strategies for market advantage/capacity utilization development plans,
- Solid understanding of production process and products to resolve most appropriate purchases, deliveries, cost and production.
- Very comfortable with spreadsheets and worksheet data analyzing with advanced skills in Excel, Pivot Table, PowerBI, etc.
- Excellent negotiation skills are required to secure the best prices, terms and delivery dates combined with strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills
- Ability to take care of suppliers in an assertive, direct and intensive manner.
- Excellent knowledge of finance, economics and marketing are required.
- Must be able to work in stressful situations resulting from multiple demands and constantly evolving priorities, flexible working hours, and limited travel.
- Proven track record to build and maintain productive and cohesive relationships with peers and cross-functional teams.
- Good organizational skills are required to plan, set, and change priorities.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada – sponsorship will not be provided for this position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU APART:
- Oracle experience preferred
- Good knowledge of importing and exporting procedures
- Broad background in manufacturing technology and line operating experience and skills to learn/guide new technical applications and tools.
