As an integral member of the Engineering Department, reporting to the Senior Manager Logistics Engineering, you will provide analysis, design, structured coding (ladder logic, symbolic programming, and computer programming), testing, documentation, implementation, change control, fallback management, and post implementation support activities for the PLC controllers at the Durham Retail Service Centre.If you are an enthusiastic and reliable individual who will thrive in a busy automated warehouse environment performing technical tasks, then this is the role for you!About the RoleProvide on-site and on-call production support for controllers including analytical, investigative, troubleshooting, problem diagnosis, and problem correction actions.Manage change control and log all changes made to the shop floor PLC controllers.Prepare and maintain complete documentation of these PLC controllers by updating technical documentation, equipment manuals, drawings, ladder logic, symbolic logic and computer programs.Determine and recommend alternative methods of work or equipment modifications; reduce downtime and equipment failure associated with PLC controllers and connected equipment, and generate reports, monitor statistical trends on downtime and show reason for failure.Perform root cause analysis and implement changes to support continuous improvement initiatives, which will include monitoring equipment performance and implementing changes to increase the uptime.This position supports a three (3) shift operation and may include some work outside of the core business hours.About YouSuccessfully completed minimum a three-year Electrical Control Engineering Technical program, and five or more years of experience working in highly automated environment.Expert ability to program logic to successfully run on the Rockwell Allen Bradley suite of PLC’s using Rockwell products along with the ability to analyze PLC controller problems and correct them through programming or system upgrades.Experience in robotics implementation, programing, and troubleshooting.Programming experience of PanelView (Rockwell HMls) and configuration and troubleshooting of VFD and servo drives.Extensive experience in implementing new automation projects and upgrading control systems.Proven knowledge in best practices to manage case, and pallet control systems, implementation, and upgrade safety systems to meet the latest safety standards in province of Ontario.Extensive experience with devices such as photo-eyes, various safety devices, light curtains, shaft encoders etc. as well as experience in programming in Visual Basic 6 and Visual Basic.net and experience in developing and using simulators to test application code.Comprehensive knowledge of Data Communications (RS 232, 422, Current Loop, Ethernet, wireless) as well as comprehensive knowledge of bar code scanning and printing and a solid understanding of physical network set-up, configuration and connections.The Durham warehouse operates Monday to Friday with three shifts: Day shift, Afternoon shift, and Midnight shift and periodically conducts testing and overtime on weekends. Therefore, the successful applicant must be willing and able to support all shifts as well as work on weekends, as required.
