Are you looking for an opportunity to leverage your strong communication skills and work with complex and diverse files? If so, then look no further!Reporting to the Manager, Industry Policy, the primary responsibilities of the Policy Analyst include:

  • Conduct research to identify issues, trends, drivers, best practices, and opportunities related to industry growth and competitiveness in Alberta.
  • Prepare advice and recommendations on a range of economic topics and issues including those related to industrial supports, and projects within the scope of the division’s priorities.
  • Provide expert quantitative and qualitative analysis that contributes to the development and design of programs.
  • Prepare program policy options and recommendations that are well researched, well analyzed and clearly presented to enable senior officials to make effective decisions to help advance mandate items on ensuring Alberta remains a competitive destination and developing programs to incentivize investment in forestry and other manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with other branches, divisions, ministries, and key stakeholders to support policy development and analysis.

QualificationsUniversity graduation in business, economics, public administration, economic development or in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

The Policy Analyst requires the following knowledge and experience:

  • Excellent ability to conduct research and collect data and information using a variety of resources to undertake effective policy analysis.
  • Have knowledge of policy and program development frameworks, strategic planning and experience in policy and program assessment or stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience preparing and providing options analysis, reports, briefings, and presentations.
  • Strong ability to generate analysis using quantitative and qualitative data and apply results to program policy.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify issues and develop solutions and actionable recommendations.
  • Able to think conceptually and critically to generate well-analyzed and realistic policy options and recommendations on complex issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate with a variety of audiences.
  • Understanding of key issues that face Alberta’s industries and factors that drive economic development and industry competitiveness in Alberta.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and policies at the federal, provincial, and municipal level that impact the industrial economy. Knowledge of related public/non-profit programs related to economic, industry, and business development.
  • Able to collaborate with diverse teams, develop relationships and engage with multiple stakeholders.
  • Possess superior organization and time management skills to balance multiple ongoing projects and meet deliverables on tight timelines.
  • Possess detailed understanding of economic development concepts.
  • Possess a big picture systemic approach to assess impacts and conclusions through research and analysis.
  • Able to catalyze alignment of initiatives to support target industry sectors and the priorities of the GOA and the ministry business plan.
