The Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation (CCCCA) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to work on several research projects on carbon emission reduction and mitigation. The CCCCA is a 45,000-square-foot research facility in St. Peter’s Bay, PEI. The facility and the surrounding lands serve as a living laboratory that allows unlimited access to nearby wetlands, forests, and coastal habitats. The CCCCA is a world-leading research and teaching center for understanding and adapting to climate change impacts.RESPONSIBILITIES:The research focus of this position will include:

  • Quantifying and analyzing GHG inventory from various agricultural systems in Atlantic Canada using field measurements and process-based models and identifying BMPs for mitigating GHG emissions.
  • Evaluating sustainable water management strategies in the face of climate change for agriculture production in Atlantic Canada.
  • Implementing concepts of regenerative agriculture, circular bioeconomy, and life cycle analysis for sustainable agriculture
  • Developing profitability mapping and remote sensing services to develop BMPs for sustainable agriculture

In addition to leading these research activities, the Post-Doctoral Research Associate is expected to:

  • Publish research results promptly in high-impact journals.
  • Write project reports and research proposals.
  • Collect soil, crop, yield, and sensor data from lab and field environments.
  • Analyze research data using advanced statistical, geospatial, and modeling techniques.
  • Organize meetings, workshops, and training courses for farmers.
  • Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students working on various pillars of ongoing research.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in agricultural engineering, environmental engineering, hydrology, water resources, or related fields;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills;
  • Be self-motivated and have demonstrated experience managing multiple tasks;
  • Strong quantitative analysis and data visualization skills for environmental data analysis;
  • Be willing to collaborate and work with a multi-disciplinary research team;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team;
  • Commitment to a collegial and inclusive workplace.
