Post Doctoral Researcher, Experimental Physics

Department : Experimental Physics
Vacancy ID : 022721
Closing Date : 09-Jul-2023

Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary University goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued.

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on the INFORM project. The INFORM project is an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) funded interdisciplinary study that will assess the pre/post radon concentrations following deep energy-retrofits scenarios of the large-scale national renovation strategy.

INFORM will utilise existing datasets collected in previous projects to extend the state-of-the-art international knowledge by improving approaches to predicting time-series radon data, enhancing the current modelling approaches used to predict the radon influx into buildings. Building physics model will be parameterised based on the representative Irish data to establish baseline scenarios, and  assess the impacts on pre/post radon concentrations of different renovation strategies. These impacts will be mapped against a representative portion of the national building stock and will consider a range of radon potential values, local building topographies and national renovation strategies. Health and economics assessment will be carried out to evaluate the economic impacts of these findings.

The researcher will join an interdisciplinary team collaborating with researchers at Maynooth University, University of Galway and University College Dublin, and have the opportunity to engage to collaborate on several other projects led by this group.

Post Doctoral Researcher (2023):  €42,033 – €45,819 p.a. pro-rata (Points 1-4 with increments)

Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.
