Job Description:Grade UE08: £49,250- £60,321 per annumCollege of Arts, Humanities & Social Science / School of Economics / Academic StaffFull-time: 35 hours per weekFixed-term: for 2 years and 6 monthsThe School of Economics is growing and is seeking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Researcher in Economic Theory and Theoretical Industrial Organization to undertake high quality research, teaching, and knowledge exchange related to these fields. The post comes with a time allocation of 30% teaching and 70% research, knowledge exchange and impact.Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to producing internationally excellent research and delivering high quality teaching that contributes to the development of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and the learning experience of our students. Applicants should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in economics or related field, and have demonstrable potential to publish their research in leading refereed journals, to contribute to knowledge exchange activities and to secure research income.Informal enquiries may be made to Dr Paweł Gola, Associate Professor of Economics:Your skills and attributes for success:

• Have a PhD in Economics or be within 6 months of completion of a PhD at the start of the post in March 2025.
• Be available to commence employment with in-person teaching in March 2025.
• Must be able to demonstrate an existing or developing record of research with potential for publication in leading peer-reviewed journals in economics.
• Must be able to demonstrate the ability to make an outstanding contribution to the research activities and intellectual life of the School of Economics.
• Have an interest in teaching courses related to Industrial Organization.
• Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• The School is looking for applicants with expertise in Theoretical Industrial Organization and Economic Theory more generally.

In the eighteenth-century, Adam Smith lived and worked in the city. His first lectures to young lawyers in 1748-51 were delivered near where the South Bridge now stands. In his later years, he continued to revise his principal books The Theory of Moral Sentiments and the Wealth of Nations, and a substantial portion of Smith’s personal library is held by Edinburgh University Library. His friend David Hume, a resident of Edinburgh, noted in his day as a historian and now as a leading empiricist philosopher, wrote much acclaimed essays on economics.Today, the School of Economics includes 56 academic staff and team of 29 administrative and technical support staff, as well as visiting Professors and other associates.
