Job description
The Dong lab primary interests are lysosomal ion channels and transporters and their physiological/pathological implications. Investigation of these channels and transporters will facilitate our understanding of endolysosome physiology, Ca2+ signaling, autophagy, and related human diseases such as lysosomal storage diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, myopathies, bacterial infection, and cancers.
Reporting to the PI, Dr. Xianping Dong, the successful candidate will be interested in investigating the functions of endolysosomes with a focus on endolysosomal ion channels, and will be expected to:
- Develop their own research area, aligned with the lab’s grant projects
- Design, perform and assess their experiments independently
- Write journal articles, conference articles and book chapters to disseminate their research findings
- Support and provide scientific and technical advice to graduate students in the lab
- Attend approved scientific conferences
- Responsible for some administrative duties including maintaining supplies and organizing lab meetings
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
- PhD degree in a molecular/cellular discipline, preferably in biophysics and/or neurobiology
- Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of molecular/cellular/biochemistry research methods, particularly with experience with cloning, western blotting, northern blotting, RT-PCR, etc.
- Effective problem solving, interpersonal and decision-making skills
- Ability to work well independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication
- Experience with patch-clamp electrophysiology, calcium imaging, confocal microscopy, and mouse genetics are assets.
Salary Range/Pay Rate $45,000 – $50,000
