DescriptionThis position offers a benefits package found at .Location – This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.The and newly established at the Alberta Diabetes Institute and Department of Cell Biology at University of Alberta is seeking highly motivated Postdoctoral Researchers to drive projects funded by CIHR, NIH and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation aimed at understanding the role of the islet microenvironment on islet endocrine cell function and diabetes development.About us:We use human islets, cell culture and animal models and human donor pancreas samples to understand the impact of the islet/pancreas “neighbourhood” on islet endocrine cell function and survival. Current projects include (i) investigating interactions between cells of the exocrine pancreas (duct and acinar) and islets, (ii) building the first comprehensive atlas of the pancreas in cystic fibrosis and (iii) studying the impact of islet microvascular destabilization on islet function and survival.What we are looking for:Highly motivated and collaborative team players to build a diverse research community focused on the islet microenvironment. Successful applicants will utilize their experience in cutting edge techniques working with human islets, organoid and/or vascular culture models, live cell and confocal microscopy and analysis of large datasets. Successful applicants will be expected to develop individual projects as well as contributing to team-based studies and to be involved in training and mentoring of other group members.Requirements:
- PhD or equivalent degree in Cell Biology, Vascular Biology, Pharmacology or related field, earned ideally within the past 3 years or anticipated by the position start date.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and research productivity demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications, presentations and/or other relevant research works.
- Laboratory experience in cell/organoid culture, biochemical and molecular biology techniques, live cell, confocal or super-resolution microscopy and image analysis.
- Experience in analyzing large datasets and coding is advantageous.
