These efforts are supported by more than 300 health, technical and support staff.PositionApplies extensive immunological and cellular biology knowledge, performs high-level, complex research activities; Initiates novel research ideas for impactful discoveries within the Edmonton fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) program.Duties

  • Participates in the scientific oversight of the laboratory; assists the Principal Investigator in supervision of students, technicians, and other staff in the laboratory
  • Participates in day-to-day operation and function of the laboratory in consultation with the lab manager
  • Engage in scientific discussion and experimental design with team members
  • Designs and conducts scientific research as it relates to host microbial interactions in the context of FMT under the direction of the Principal Investigator
  • Participates in design and conduct of other projects approved by the Principal Investigator
  • Collects, analyzes and interprets data relating to research and clinical translation
  • Sets research activity objectives in consultation with the Principal Investigator
  • Develops and carries out independent research
  • Troubleshoots experimental protocols
  • In consultation with the Principal Investigator, develops and documents research methods and protocols
  • Writes research papers and assists with the preparation of research grant applications
  • Presents research results at laboratory meetings, departmental seminars, scientific conferences
  • Fosters communication with off-campus partners
  • Works in BL2 biohazard containment

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in molecular and cellular biology, immunology or related field
  • Strong publication record in molecular biology and immunology
  • Working experience in BL2 bio-containment laboratories
  • Working knowledge and experience of genomics, bioinformatics, and cell-culturing
  • Ability to work independently as well as contributing to team development
  • Experience in supervising and training students and technicians
  • Strong communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of postdoctoral experience encompassing broad molecular/immunological (preferred) research
