- Base Salary $113,184 – $134,403 Pro- Rata + 17% superannuation.

The Children’s Hospital at Westmead is a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. Our passionate team of world-class researchers is dedicated to improving the lives of children with a range of neurodevelopmental and mental health conditions including fetal alcohol spectrum disorder by developing better diagnostic methods and treatments. Translation of our world’s best research into clinical practice within the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network and community is our goal. We collaborate at the local, national, and international level to improve children’s health, locally and globally.
Growing Minds Australia is a research consortium led by the University of Sydney and funded by the Medical Research Futures Fund to develop a national network of clinicians and researchers to participate in research on mental health disorders in children. One of the study Investigators is based at The Children’s Hospital.
We are seeking Postdoctoral Fellow for a research-focused academic role, who can apply their expertise in research methodologies, design and delivery to contribute to the University’s standing as a national leader in fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, child health and mental health. The successful candidate will engage in research on aspects of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder as part of the national Growing Minds Australia research network. Your key responsibilities will be to:
- contribute to research, data analysis, reporting and administrative activities of the NSW FASD Assessment clinic within the Specialty of Child and Adolescent Health in the Faculty of Medical and Health
- undertake high quality research to investigate the current treatments and explore optimal treatments of children with a range of psychiatric, psychological and learning conditions associated with fetal alcohol spectrum (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder/Mental Health/Child Health/Psychology/Neurodevelopment)
- contribute to administrative aspects of research activities, including ethics applications, literature searches and reviews, reports and publications
- supervise postgraduate research students or projects, where appropriate
- contribute to successful applications for competitive research grants and/or funding to deliver research impact
- contribute to the University to assist it in achieving its strategic objectives.
- collaborate with clinicians and researchers at the FASD NSW service and a national network of clinical and research partners in the Growing Minds Australia Network.
- hold a relevant PhD in a field of Child Health/Psychology /Medical and health Sciences/Public Health
- proven research experience including publications, ethics applications, grant applications, oral presentations, participation in research teams, qualitative and quantitative data analysis and translation of research
- experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating research team activities
- willingness to participate in mentoring development activities with junior staff and students
- possess strong written and social communication skills and hold a collaborative approach that contributes to the development and maintenance of a positive workplace culture clinical expertise in any area of Child Health, Mental Health, or Psychology would be beneficial but is not required.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
