Offer Description

We seek a postdoctoral fellow in the context of our project X-BACAMAT which aims at elucidating the physical mechanisms underlying bacterial swarming. We use the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa as an experimental model system. We developed a suite of imaging tools to investigate the dynamics of proliferation and motility across length and time scales, as well as genetic engineering tools to decipher the interplay between single-cell features and colony-scale behaviour.

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate, with a high level of independence and creative thinking.

  • PhD in physics, biophysics, microbiology, computational biology, or similar.
  • A publication track record in this field with at least one first author publication.
  • A broad experimental laboratory experience with a good working knowledge of image acquisition, image analysis, data analysis and deep scientific expertise in a number of disciplines including soft matter and active matter, microbiology. Practical skills in molecular biology of bacteria are a plus. 
  •  Proficiency in appropriate programming languages and software (MATLAB, C++, ImageJ, micro-manager)
  • High intrinsic motivation and a strong scientific curiosity
  •  Excellent oral and written English communication skills

Funding will be provided for a 2-year postdoctoral appointment, starting as early as Fall 2023.
