About usThe UCL School of Pharmacy is one of the most highly rated pharmacy schools in the UK. As the oldest school, founded by the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in 1842, it has over 180 years of experience and tradition throughout which it has retained its identity as a specialist institution dedicated to teaching and research in pharmacy and the pharmaceutical sciences. UCL is currently rated 4th in the world by the QS Ranking (Pharmacy and Pharmacology 2024).We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to work at the UCL School of Pharmacy. The appointee will join Dr Jenny Lam’s research group to work on a project titled ‘Development of inhaled powder aerosol of mRNA therapeutics for cystic fibrosis (CF)’ funded by Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) for 3 years. This project is collaborated with Prof Stephen Hart at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health.About the roleWe are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to work at the UCL School of Pharmacy. The appointee will join Dr Jenny Lam’s research group to work on a project titled ‘Development of inhaled powder aerosol of mRNA therapeutics for cystic fibrosis (CF)’ funded by Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) for 3 years. This project is collaborated with Prof Stephen Hart at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health.This project aims to develop an inhaled dry powder formulations of mRNA therapeutics for the treatment of CF. Our research groups have recently developed peptide- and lipid-based RNA delivery systems that demonstrated successful in vivo transfection with good safety profile. We seek to further develop these delivery systems as inhalable dry powder suitable for patients with CF. Spray drying technique will be applied. The aerosol and physicochemical properties of the spray dried powder will be characterised and optimised. The therapeutic effect of the CFTR mRNA formulations will be evaluated on CF models.About youApplicants must hold a PhD degree in Pharmaceutical Science, Biomedical Science or related discipline. They should have hands-on experience in molecular biology, spray drying, aerosol characterisation and solid-state analysis. Excellent communication and organisation skills are essential.
