University of Oxford

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, ambitious and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Researcher in Developmental Genetics, in the group of Associate Professor Steve Twigg at the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team of researchers, the Congenital Anomalies Cluster, developing new mouse models for human disease as part of the MRC National Mouse Genetic Network. The project will investigate genetic variants in serious childhood disorders, including craniofacial malformations, to better understand disease mechanisms.

You will also have the opportunity to be trained and to develop novel skills in molecular genetics, developmental biology and bioinformatics and gain expertise in a leading human genetics research environment. You will be responsible for managing and planning your own academic research, generating high quality data and writing up findings for publication.

You will hold a PhD (or be close to completion: thesis submitted) in molecular genetics, developmental biology, biochemistry or other related biological sciences, together with relevant experience. Experience in the breeding and maintenance of model organisms, as well as expertise in image analysis and processing will be essential. Experience in molecular biology protocols for instance cloning, DNA/RNA isolation, DNA sequencing, PCR, qRT-PCR, is also necessary. A strong track record in research is desirable, evidenced by publications, presentations at meetings, and successful completion of research projects.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.
