Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Molecular Pharmacology

Fixed term for 2 years, 37 hours per weekThis is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) in Molecular Pharmacology the Drugs from Nature Targeting Inflammation Research Group within the Department of Pharmacy on an industry-funded project to identify molecular targets of anti-inflammatory action of natural products. The project will employ cellular and molecular pharmacology approaches to determine mechanisms of actions of natural products. This role will involve the use of mammalian cell culture, biochemical assays, functional assays and molecular biology to achieve project objectives.The role will be based in the Department of Pharmacy, which is part of the School of Applied Sciences. The School of Applied Sciences provides a vibrant research, teaching, learning environment for students and staff encompassing other Departments like Physical and Life Sciences and Optometry. Researchers in the School are internationally recognised for their research with a track record of attracting external funding from the UKRI, Charities and industry.As a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Molecular Pharmacology, you will be an early career researcher with a passion for using cutting edge biology tools to provide in depth pharmacological bases for the use of natural products in treating symptoms of common inflammatory conditions.You will contribute to the activities of a multidisciplinary research team through design and execution of experiments, data management, laboratory management and supervision of postgraduate researchers. You will be expected to participate in other research-related activities towards meeting project milestones.You will hold a PhD degree in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry. Proven experience of research on molecular targets of natural product pharmacology, mammalian cell culture (immune cells), and mammalian DNA transfection are essential to this role.The University is deeply committed to equality and diversity for all its students and staff.
