Job DescriptionGrade UE07: £40,247 to £47,874 per annumSchool of Biological Sciences / Institute of Quantitative Biology, Biochemistry and BiotechnologyFull time: 35 hours per weekFixed Term: from 1st March 2025 until 28th February 2026We are looking for an exceptionally motivated researcher to take up a postdoctoral position in rational engineering of cell-free protein synthesis reactions, as part of the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship ‘Self-sustaining cell-free systems’ led by Dr. Laohakunakorn. The post is fully-funded for 1 year, with the possibility of extension pending future funding success.The Opportunity:The successful candidate will conduct cutting edge research in cell-free synthetic biology. The candidate will carry out experiments using world-class lab automation facilities in the Edinburgh Genome Foundry, and use automation and statistical analysis to drive performance improvements in a key synthetic biological system. The project will equip the candidate with sought-after skills for a successful future career.Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Excellent demonstrated track record of research in synthetic biology, lab automation, design of experiments, or high throughput screening
  • Expertise in coding and data analysis
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and presentation skills
  • Ability to use accumulated experience and creativity in problem solving
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
