About the RoleWe are seeking a researcher for a study funded by the NIHR looking at what causes inequalities in cancer diagnostic outcomes for people with a learning disability, what interventions exist to redress these in the symptomatic cancer pathway and whether these are amenable to scalable implementation. You will have responsibility for recruiting NHS sites to participate in the project, as well as leading the qualitative data collection and analysis. Based at our Charterhouse Square campus, you will be recruiting the sites, conducting observations and interviews with clinical and other stakeholders. You will also have opportunities to contribute your own ideas to future grant applications. The project is a collaboration with the Universities of Exeter and Surrey.About YouApplicants should have experience of conducting research in healthcare, with an understanding of the primary care environment, an interest in inequalities in access to healthcare, and be motivated by healthcare improvement. An excellent communicator, you may have some experience of engaging with people with a learning disability, or people undergoing testing for cancer, as this is the focus of our project. Significant research experience of high-quality qualitative research methods, including observations and interviews, is essential, alongside a demonstrable knowledge of research ethics procedures.About the Institute and CentreThe Wolfson Institute of Population Health (WIPH) is an exciting and dynamic environment, home to more than 450 staff, 100 PhD students and c500 postgraduate taught students. It harnesses expertise across a wide range of population-based research and education activities and aims to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in population health, primary care and preventive medicine. The Institute is organised into six separate research centres which, though complementary and following the Institute strategic plan, also have Centre-specific objectives and requirements .The Centre for Cancer Screening, Prevention and Early Diagnosis forms part of the WIPH and brings together globally leading researchers focusing on cancer prevention, cancer screening and detection and early diagnosis across two units.
