Faculty of Health and Life SciencesThe above full-time post is available immediately on a fixed term basis for 18 months in the Faculty.The postThe Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of Dr. Stefan Harmansa. This Wellcome funded post is available immediately. The successful applicant will investigate mechanical properties of basement membranes (BM), sheet like extracellular matrices, in the context of tissue growth and morphogenesis using the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster.The post will include establishment of atomic force microscopy (AFM) and laser ablations using 2-photon microscopy as tools to quantify the material properties of BMs.About youThe successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.Applicants will possess a relevant PhD and a strong background related to extracellular matrix biology or synthetic polymer scaffold engineering or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will have extensive experience in atomic force microscopy and optical microscopy and a solid background in polymer mechanics and the biophysical characterization thereof. Ideally, you would have previous experience with lithographic patterning approaches and the evaluation of cellular behaviour on different polymer/BM substrate structures.
