Job Description:Grade UE07: £40,247 to £47,874 per annumSchool of Biological Sciences / Institute of Quantitative Biology, Biochemistry and BiotechnologyFull time: 35 hours per weekFixed Term: from 1st February 2025 until 31st August 2026We are looking for a motivated PhD level graduate in biotechnology, synthetic biology or chemistry with a strong interest in improving the sustainability of current manufacturing processes through interdisciplinary and collaborative working.This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.The Opportunity:The successful applicant will conduct experimental work on microbial nanoparticle synthesis and metal biorecovery from waste streams. The project will seek to establish the breadth of opportunity presented by these bioprocesses for the recovery of technology critical metals.Your skills and attributes for success:

  • PhD (or to be completed within 3 months) in biotechnology, synthetic biology or a related discipline
  • Experience in microbiology, molecular biology and metal nanoparticle biosynthesis
  • Expertise in relevant analytical techniques and methods
  • Effective data trending, document control, and technical bench skills
