Job Description:Grade UE07: £40,247 to £47,874 per annumCollege of Science and Engineering / School of Biological Sciences / Institute of Molecular Plant SciencesFull time contract: 35 hours per weekFixed Term: for 24 monthsWe are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in alga synthetic biology to develop systems for precise nuclear regulation of the plastome.The Opportunity:A Postdoctoral Research Associate position in alga synthetic/engineering biology is available in the laboratory of Dr Attila Molnar at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Edinburgh. We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to take a lead role in contributing to the development of systems for precise nuclear regulation of the plastome in the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. This is a collaborative project funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) involving University College London, University of Cambridge, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology and the University of Edinburgh.The position is available for a fixed term of two years. - PhD in an appropriate and relevant subject.
- Track record of internationally competitive molecular biology research in microbiology/plants/algae.
- Evidence of intellectual independence and creativity, and high level of organisation and high-quality record keeping.

- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with colleagues and collaborators.

Main research themes include developmental biology, plant cell signalling, speciation and molecular plant pathology.Research is funded by a diversity of organisations including BBSRC and commercial companies, and is supported by state-of the art facilities; an IMPS research forum facilitates inter-laboratory collaborations. IMPS has close links with SynthSys (the centre for Synthetic and Systems Biology at Edinburgh and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh (RBGE), providing further breadth to our research base.
