Job description

About the RoleWe are seeking to recruit an outstanding lab-based molecular biologist with or about to receive a PhD, who has experience in development and application of next-generation sequencing assays, to play a key role in development and deployment of cutting-edge methods to detect cancer earlier than traditional methods.About YouExperience of translational research using human samples, the development of clinical diagnostic assays, and bioinformatic analysis of next generation sequencing data would be a distinct advantage. You will be a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills and who is well organised. You will be able to work independently and interact effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.About the Institute / About the ProjectThe Rosenfeld lab (http://www.rosenfeldlab.org/) at the Barts Cancer Institute, Queen Mary University of London, pioneers new approaches for minimally-invasive molecular diagnostics and analysis of cancer genomes, using next-generation sequencing of circulating cell-free tumour DNA (ctDNA). The group is a dynamic mix of molecular biologists, bioinformaticians and clinical fellows providing a unique environment for development and learning in cancer genomics and translational research. We work with large collections of patient samples from different clinical studies, which we analyse by both genome-wide and targeted methods for sensitive mutation detection. We aim to develop novel tools for cancer diagnostics by developing improved methods and demonstrating clinical utility. Furthermore, we explore the biophysical properties of ctDNA with the aim of identifying its origins and interactions.About Queen MaryAt Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence.
