Faculty of Health and Life SciencesThis new full-time post is immediately available until 31 January 2028 on a fixed term basis.The postThe Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate or Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in unravelling the intricate cellular regulation of basement membrane (BM) growth and organisation. This Wellcome funded post is immediately available until 31 January 2028. The successful applicant will use a combination of genetic perturbations, biophysical approaches and several high resolution imaging techniques to identify molecular regulators of BM growth during the development of the fruit fly Drosophila. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the interface of biology and physics, mastering a wide set of cutting-edge techniques and create unprecedented insight into the growth regulation of BMs.The post will include molecular cloning, Drosophila genetics and light and electron microscopy. You will have a deep interest in the mechanical aspects of shape generation during animal development Previous experience with Drosophila is not required but an advantage.About youPDRA: The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or be nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.PDRF: The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience with a background in developmental biology, physics or mechanics and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively and supervise the work of others.
