About the opportunityWe are seeking to appoint one Postdoctoral Research Associate/ Fellow in Diseases and Treatment of Cats. The position is a research-focused appointment for outstanding, independent, early career researchers (less than 5 years post PhD award), with a strong publication record relative to opportunity. Successful candidates will contribute to one of the SSVS’s research themes of Infectious diseases and biosecurity; Animal welfare; Genetics, Genomic and taxonomy or Evidence-based Clinical Practice. The successful candidate will be expected to be based on campus for for majority of their time either in Camperdown or Camden campus and develop research closely aligned with the University Veterinary Teaching Hospitals. This position provides a unique opportunity for early career researchers to establish their future research direction.The postdoctoral associate/fellow is expected to design and conduct innovative research program, publish their work in highly ranked journals, co-supervise higher degree by research students and advise Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) research projects. They will also be expected to provide up to 30 hours of undergraduate or postgraduate teaching per year within their area of expertise, with access to career development in education pedagogy within the School and University. It is essential that successful applicants strive to maintain and grow a culture of collaboration and excellence in their research, their interactions with academic and professional staff, and their support and mentoring of students.Since the founding of veterinary science in 1910, the mission of the Sydney School of Veterinary Science (SSVS) has been to provide the nation’s best training in the health, welfare, and conservation of animals. The School is internationally accredited with the American Veterinary Medical Association, Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (UK) and the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council. Veterinary science at Sydney is ranked 1st in Australia and 26th in the world, according to the QS World University Subject Rankings 2024, and has received the top rating (5/5) for research excellence in the most recent Australian Government’s Excellence in Research for Australia.Our School operates across two campuses, Camperdown (inner-city) and Camden (semi-rural) and has three teaching hospitals that provide unique learning experiences and research opportunities. The School also provides diagnostic services for clinicians and researchers using state of the art equipment. SSVS is home to over 80 academic staff committed to ensuring the highest quality experience and outcomes for our DVM and research students. We employ a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to research, which in turn, informs our teaching.
