Postdoctoral Research Associate in Chemistry
University of Oxford
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Chemistry to work under the supervision of Professor Justin Benesch and Professor Philipp Kukura for a period of up to two years on the following project: BBSRC sLoLa Single molecule proteomics: Next-generation analysis of proteins in individual cells. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team that aims to develop and apply novel approaches for identifying proteins and their common modifications. Seemingly subtle protein modifications, such as phosphorylation, can drastically alter a protein’s function. However, these modifications are difficult to detect with existing technology – meaning they remain largely hidden. The new approach will help scientists to better understand how proteins function in health and disease. The team’s approach leverages three technologies developed by members of the team: nanopore, electrometry and mass photometry. These technologies are already used individually to extract different types of valuable information about biomolecules, including their mass, size, charge.Applicants must hold a PhD in Chemistry or a relevant subject area, (or be close to completion) prior to taking up their appointment. The research requires experience in single-molecule imaging biophysics and expertise in at least two of the following: nanopore technology, optical microscopy, machine learning, mass spectrometry, complex optical set-up design, surface mobilisation. You will be expected to manage your own academic research as well as administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry, Kavli Institute of Nanoscience Discovery, South Parks Road, Oxford and is available as soon as possible.Applications for this vacancy are to be made online, and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Certificates, references and research papers should not be provided at this stage. To apply for this role and for further details, including a job description and selection criteria, please click on the link below. The closing date for applications is 19 March 2025, 12.00 midday. Interviews will be held on as soon as possible thereafter. The University of Oxford and The Department of Chemistry are Silver Athena SWAN holders. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in Chemistry research posts in Oxford.Contact Person :Ellie RawlinsonVacancy ID :178626Contact Phone :Closing Date & Time :19-Mar-2025 12:00Pay Scale :RESEARCH GRADE 7Contact Email :ellie.rawlinson@chem.ox.ac.ukSalary (£) :Grade 7: £38,674 – £46,913 per annum (inclusive of Oxford University Weighting))
