About usOur contemporary Chemistry Department, based in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences, provides an exciting place to explore the boundaries of the subject. We strive to provide students with a thorough chemical education plus a perspective on, and experience of, diverse practical applications of chemistry that lays down a basis for a flexible, interesting career, particularly at the interface of chemistry and biomedicine.To obtain further information about our Department, please visit our website .About the roleApplications are invited for a one year fixed-term position in the group of Dr Rebecca Musgrave in the Department of Chemistry, King’s College London. The research is directed towards the synthesis and characterisation of cyclic organometallic molecules and exploring their propensity towards ring-opening and polymerisation.Applicants should have a PhD in synthetic chemistry, ideally with extensive experience in handling air- and moisture-sensitive materials using Schlenk line and glovebox techniques. Some experience in synthetic polymer chemistry is desired, but not essential. Experience in the safe handling of highly air- and moisture-sensitive reagents3. Experience in using Schlenk and glove box techniques4. Experience synthesising and characterising organometallic complexes5. A strong record of publication in relevant and peer reviewed journals6. Ability to identify, develop and apply new concepts, techniques and methods7. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write scientifically, clearly and succinctlyDesirable criteria1. Experience in synthesis of cyclopentadienyl-derived ligands2. Experience in the synthesis of organometallic heterocycles3.   • Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
