About the RoleThe School of Geography at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) are seeking to appoint a Post Doctoral Research Associate.The postholder will play a significant and central role in a new multi-disciplinary project entitled “Pharmaceutical Geographies of Self-Managed Sexual Health.” The project examines treatment communities who self-manage their sexual and reproductive health needs outside of the medical system. It explores how people use digital health technologies and networks to purchase, import and use medicines that are not available in their home countries. It focuses on three types of medicines: antiretrovirals for treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS, sex hormones for self-managed transgender hormone therapy, and abortion pills for medical termination of pregnancy.The postholder will lead research on anti-retroviral for treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS. Their responsibilities will include: identifying and recruiting study participants from relevant treatment networks, carrying out interviews and other forms of data collection, contributing to data analysis, publishing research based on the findings and presenting the research at academic and policy events. They will also assist with some administrative tasks like organising research events and reporting to the funder.About youThe candidate should hold a PhD in anthropology, sociology, geography, public health or another relevant social science field.The successful candidate will have subject area expertise in HIV/AIDS and previous experience carrying out research on this topic.Experience using qualitative research methods, experience of writing up research findings, and experience working as part of a team are also key aspects of the role.Candidates are required to apply online and should submit a writing sample with their application.
