Job Description:UE07: £39,347 to £46,974 per annumCMVM / Edinburgh Medical School / Deanery of Biomedical Sciences / Centre for Discovery Brain SciencesFull-time, 35 hours per weekFixed-Term, 4 yearsThe Opportunity:We are seeking a post-doctoral research assistant to help in our studies of the neuromodulation and coordination of locomotion by brainstem and spinal networks. The lab utilizes a combination of cutting-edge behavioural, molecular, imaging and electrophysiological approaches in the zebrafish model system. Successful candidates will demonstrate expertise in these areas and will contribute to the establishment of a new lab under the supervision of an established PI, including the training of new personnel, assembly and ordering of equipment, collection and analysis of data, and the writing of grants and manuscripts. Evidence of team building, resilience, overcoming obstacles, and research independence are particularly desirable.This post is full-time (35 hours per week) and we are open to considering a flexible pattern that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.Your skills and attributes for success:

  • PhD (or PhD near completion) in neuroscience, biomedical sciences or similar
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, orally and in writing
  • Experience with zebrafish as a model system
  • Expertise in single and/or multiphoton microscopy and analysis
  • Expertise in whole-cell patch clamp and/or multi-unit recordings and analysis
