Job Description:Grade UE07: £39,347.00 – £46,974.00 Per Annum.College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine, Institute for Regeneration and Repair, Centre for Regenerative Medicine.Fixed Term: Available until August 2028.Full-time: 35 hours per week.The Opportunity:This is an opportunity to work in a collaborative manner between 2 translational research labs that is focussed on liver regeneration (Stuart Forbes, base lab at the Centre for Regenerative Medicine, Institute for Regeneration and Repair) and Type 1 diabetes (collaborating lab Shareen Forbes, Centre for Cardiovascular Science). The overall aim is to optimise islet transplantation outcomes in diabetic rodent models. This position is to support a research programme funded by the Steve Morgan Foundation/Diabetes UK, investigating whether biodegradable microparticles packaged with a range of drugs including anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory drugs, improve islet transplant outcomes when delivered with islets at the time of transplant directly into the liver. The post holder will also have the opportunity to work with colleagues in the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult and the University of Nottingham, Department of Pharmacy (Lisa White lab), that are manufacturing the microparticles.This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns.Your skills and attributes for success:
- PhD in a biomedical discipline (Desirable).
- Excellent knowledge and
2 years practical research experience in molecular biology and cell biology. * A current animal licence or recent previous animal license with experience in working with rodents for2 years is essential. * Interest in and demonstrable knowledge of at least one of these areas: regenerative medicine, cell therapy.
- Experience of common imaging and related analysis software used in cell biology (Desirable).

It is home to 26 highly interactive research groups working to understand stem cells and their interactions with the tissues in which they are found. Specific research themes include stem cell development and formation of the niche, tissue maintenance and repair, reprogramming of somatic cells back to stem cells (iPS cells) and disease modelling using stem cells. Translational research programmes span four therapeutic targets: brain, blood, liver and heart. Research at CRM involves more than 250 scientists, graduate students and support and ancillary staff, including those providing key central services and resources.Key to the philosophy of the Centre is collaboration with other University Centres and use of Edinburgh’s superb clinical research infrastructure, which enables the application of regenerative biology and medicine to a wide range of biological problems and diseases.
