Faculty of Environment, Science and EconomyThis new full time post is available immediately on a 34 month fixed term basis.The postThe Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support the work of Prof Kirsty Wan ( ) on a new 34 month research project.This full-time role will be based at Exeter’s Living Systems Institute, and is part of an exciting, long-term interdisciplinary programme, which will investigate the behaviour and biology of single-celled organisms. This funded post is available immediately.The successful applicant will develop novel bioimaging and cell-manipulation technologies to investigate sensing and behaviour in single-celled organisms. You will have access to brand new, state-of-the-art imaging and microscopy facilities, as well as a stimulating, interdisciplinary working environment. There may also be scope and flexibility within the project for the candidate to develop their own ideas. An ideal applicant should have a keen interest in attempting new techniques and approaches (e.g. EM, robotics, electrophysiology, in vitro assays), and have significant prior experience in experimental biophysics. You should also have a good understanding of soft matter or biological physics (broadly defined). Proficiency in scientific programming, especially computational image analysis, is highly desirable.About youThe successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in your specialist subject (i.e. track record of publications arising) and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required.
