A salary over this threshold may result in a reduced duration of contractCMVM- Institute for Regeneration and RepairFull-time: 35 hours per weekFixed-term: 32 monthsThe Opportunity:We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to develop novel stem cell gene therapies for childhood neurological diseases. Your main role will be to develop and improve ex vivo stem cell gene therapies for Mucopolysaccharide diseases. Experience of working with mouse disease models and gene or cell therapy is essential.The post is available for 32 monthsThis post is full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns.Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A PhD (achieved or about to be awarded) in neuroscience, cell biology, biochemistry, gene therapy, pharmaceutical sciences or a related haematological discipline.
  • Excellent research and methodological skills relevant to the research theme
  • Experience of working with stem cells and/or gene therapy vectors
  • Experience of working with in vivo neurological methods, especially in disease models
  • Experience of working with animals/personal licence

Between now and 2030 we will do that with a values-led approach to teaching, research and innovation, and through the strength of our relationships, both locally and globally.About the Team:The Centre for Regenerative Medicine (CRM; Director, Professor Stuart Forbes) brings together world leading basic stem cell research with established clinical excellence to deliver a “bench-to-bedside” approach in addressing the challenges posed by degenerative diseases.CRM is part of the Institute for Regeneration and Repair and housed in a £56m purpose-build building at Edinburgh BioQuarter. It is home to 26 highly interactive research groups working to understand stem cells and their interactions with the tissues in which they are found. Specific research themes include stem cell development and formation of the niche, tissue maintenance and repair, reprogramming of somatic cells back to stem cells (iPS cells) and disease modelling using stem cells. Translational research programmes span four therapeutic targets: brain, blood, liver and heart. Research at CRM involves more than 250 scientists, graduate students and support and ancillary staff, including those providing key central services and resources.Key to the philosophy of the Centre is collaboration with other University Centres and use of Edinburgh’s superb clinical research infrastructure, which enables the application of regenerative biology and medicine to a wide range of biological problems and diseases.
