About usis a leading international centre for research and teaching related to understanding hearing and transforming hearing health. Our collaborative, multi-disciplinary institute has circa 75 staff working across basic and clinical sciences including genetics, cell and molecular biology, auditory neuroscience, cognitive and computational neuroscience, audiological sciences and ENT medicine. The UCL Ear Institute together with its partner, the Royal National Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital (RN ENT), also hosts a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Theme in ‘Hearing Health’. A RAND analysis of highly-cited publications ranked UCL No.1 in England for both ‘Deafness and Hearing’ and for ‘Audiology and Speech & Language Pathology’.The Jagger Lab studies questions of anatomy/physiology in the normal and disease-affected inner ear. You will work in a small, collaborative and innovative team who are committed to excellence in auditory research. The Ear Institute has circa 75 staff located in a multi-disciplinary facility dedicated to understanding the mechanisms of hearing and the causes of deafness.About the roleA full-time postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available at UCL Ear Institute to work on a study funded by Kidney Research UK. The project will use cell biology, biochemical and imaging techniques to study the mechanisms of hearing loss and imbalance in Alport Syndrome.The post-holder will be expected to carry out imaging (super-resolution and standard confocal), molecular and biochemical experiments to map type IV collagen alpha networks in the mouse inner ear. This research post will require the individual to work independently under the guidance of Prof Dan Jagger, and with the labs of collaborators. The post-holder will be expected to have a proven track record in high impact research from the initiation of the research to completion of the research manuscript.This is a fixed-term role until 31 March 2028 in the first instance. is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B (salary £41,255 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD Thesis.This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.If we receive a significant number of applications we may close the role prior to the stated end date.About youThe successful candidate will have a PhD degree in a relevant biomedical or biosciences subject, and publications in internationally refereed journals on topics mentioned in Job Description.
