About Us:
SORADI is a leading research institute dedicated to sustainable development and innovation. We are seeking a talented Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to join our team. This position focusses on a project aimed at addressing climate-driven vector-borne diseases (VBDs) within IDP camps and surrounding communities in Somaliland.

Position Overview:
This is an exciting opportunity for a researcher to engage in GIS research, analysis, and training. The successful candidate will support a project that promotes integrative vector control and surveillance approaches, utilising context-specific research findings and policy recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and analysis of geospatial data to provide insights and solutions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand project GIS needs and develop tailored solutions.
  • Provide training and support to users on GIS software and applications.
  • Stay current with new technologies and best practices in the field.
  • Collaborate on analysing the intersection of climate-induced displacement and existing inequalities in access to VBD prevention, control, and treatment.
  • Support the development of context-specific policy recommendations to mitigate climate-driven risks of VBDs in IDP camps.
  • Strengthen research capacity at SORADI.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in a relevant field.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with policymakers and stakeholders to ensure research impact.
  • Motivation to contribute to research capacity-building at a research institution.
  • GIS fieldwork experience, including data collection, interpretation, analysis, and report writing.
  • Experience in facilitating workshops and providing training in GIS.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in the Somali language.
  • Knowledge of climate-driven health impacts, especially in displacement contexts.
  • Previous experience in collaborative research projects, particularly in Somali regions.
  • A track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to adapt to diverse cultural and professional environments.
