You will be part of the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science which is organised into four Departments that work together in toxicology and forensic science, the discovery of novel medicines & new formulations that can be evaluated in the clinic and providing a better understanding of how to optimise the use of existing medicines by patients and healthcare professionals.You will join a collaborative group (Dr Vincenzo Abbate and Prof David Cowan) within the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and work closely with our colleagues at MHRA.About the roleTHIS VACANCY IS OPEN TO INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLYWe seek an experienced postdoctoral research associate in Bioanalysis (LC-MS/MS) in the Department of Analytical, Environmental and Forensic Sciences to develop, optimise and validate sensitive LC-MS/MS methods for the analysis of drugs and metabolites in human breastmilk. The candidate will work closely with colleagues at the MHRA to inform bioanalytical data and aid the MHRA to improve their PBPK modelling systems.The candidate will perform sample extraction, and bioanalysis in breastmilk to determine several parameters including the extent of protein-drug binding and partitioning into breastmilk.The candidate will join a vibrant group of researchers within the research group of King’s Forensics under the Department of Analytical, Environmental and Forensic Sciences within the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences. It is expected that the results generated from the project will be published in international, peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented at national or international meetings in the form of oral or poster presentations and further grant applications. The candidate will report to Dr Vincenzo Abbate as line manager and is expected to integrate into Dr Abbate’s multidisciplinary research group. The candidate will also have the opportunity to supervise postgraduate taught and research students as part of their research projects. It is expected that the candidate will assist with future grant preparation as well as drafting scientific manuscripts. Since this is a collaborative project with King’s College London and the MHRA, the candidate will liaise with the PI, Co-PIs and collaborators to design experiments and to disseminate results.This is a full time (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term until 31 May 2025.About youTo be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:Essential criteriaPhD in Analytical Sciences/ChemistryExperience in analytical chemistry, specifically using sensitive LC-MS/MS equipmentExperience in developing and validating LC-MS/MS assays in biological matricesTrack record of publications in peer-reviewed, scientific journalsExperience of supervision of postgraduate research and taught studentsDesirable criteria * Experience in drafting grant applications
