Postdoctoral Scientist

We are currently recruiting for a Postdoctoral scientist in Immunology reporting to Professor Holm Uhlig. The project is jointly supervised by Professor Fiona Powrie. The post holder will join a dynamic group, studying immune regulation in the intestine and how this may break down in inflammatory bowel diseases. The post will be held in the Translational Gastroenterology Unit (TGU) at the John Radcliffe Hospital. The TGU brings together scientists and clinicians with the objective of applying fundamental research in mucosal immunology to the understanding and treatment of gastrointestinal disease to investigate genetics of IBD and to study potential therapeutic applications of interfering in pro-inflammatory and regulatory pathways.

The post holder will be responsible for the development of the research project with focus on very early onset IBD and monogenic forms of IBD. The successful applicant will investigate genetic and immunological causes of IBD, present research results, preparing reports and publications. 

To be considered for this position you should have a DPhil/PhD in Immunology or related sciences or close to completion with a suitable MSc / undergraduate degree. You should have experience in cellular and molecular immunology, specifically with cell cultures, macrophage and/or lymphocyte cultures, and in molecular biology, such gene or protein expression analysis or CRISPR technology.

You will be an enthusiastic, motivated, highly organised postdoctoral scientist possessing knowledge and experience in immunology or/and microbiology with an ability to produce work to a high standard. You will have an interest in genetics of inflammatory bowel disease. Excellent communication skills with the ability to present results clearly and logically, working co-operatively as part of a team as well as independently, are also essential capabilities for this post. You will work within an international network of collaborators. 

The post is full time and fixed term until 28/02/2025.
