It is home to 26 highly interactive research groups working to understand stem cells and their interactions with the tissues in which they are found. Specific research themes include stem cell development and formation of the niche, tissue maintenance and repair, reprogramming of somatic cells back to stem cells (iPS cells) and disease modelling using stem cells. Translational research programmes span four therapeutic targets: brain, blood, liver and heart. Research at CRM involves more than 250 scientists, graduate students and support and ancillary staff, including those providing key central services and resources.Key to the philosophy of the Centre is collaboration with other University Centres and use of Edinburgh’s superb clinical research infrastructure, which enables the application of regenerative biology and medicine to a wide range of biological problems and diseases.
