Power Automate Data Management Intern (Unpaid)

BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in more than 40 countries and over 20 U.S. cities, the IRC provides resettlement, education, and empowerment support to refugees and displaced people.

SCOPE OF INTERN WORK:

This is a cutting-edge internship that seeks to apply rapidly evolving technological developments in the humanitarian sector. The Power Automate Data Management Intern will support IRC’s Elizabeth, New Jersey office in data management by designing and building Microsoft Power Automate flows to automate data entry flows, create custom APIs, and integrate siloed data systems.

Microsoft Power Automate is a cloud-based service that helps users automate business processes and repetitive tasks. It’s part of the Microsoft Power Platform. It is a no-code or low-code service.

The Power Automate Data Management Intern will learn the details of data management across many teams in the IRC NJ office, including Resettlement, Intensive Case Management, Housing, Health and Wellness, Intake, Refugee Cash Assistance, Assistance for Families and Older Adults, Economic Empowerment, Adult and Youth Education, and, potentially, the Legal Team.

This role is remote and 15 hours a week. This position is unpaid. An applicant needs work authorization in the USA to qualify. (CPT and OPT are acceptable.)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1.Interns will learn how to apply custom no-code automated data management solutions in the humanitarian sector

2.Interns will develop an ability for self-guided work

3.Interns will reflect on the role of data in international humanitarian relief

4.Interns will learn the basics of data philosophy

5.Interns will reflect on the role of ethics in data management

Minimum Qualifications:

REQUIREMENTS:

·Knowledge of automated, no-code operations tools (such as Power Automate)

·Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) Sharepoint lists

·Intermediate Microsoft Excel abilities

·Fluency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint

·Self-guided and self-motivated

·Willing to learn new software programs and data analysis tools

·Access to reliable internet, a computer, and video call technology (laptops can be provided to an intern only while in the office)

·Access to download and install software to complete remote work

·Ability to attend meetings via video call during Eastern Standard Time (NYC time)

·Willing to learn about IRC history, philosophy, global work, and local efforts

·Willing to adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies

RECOMMENDED (NOT REQUIRED):

·Experience with Power Automate

·Experience with coding (any language)

·Foundational logic

·Foundational statistics

·Experience with Microsoft Teams

·Experience with Microsoft Power BI

·Experience with data analysis
