Job summaryClatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust (CCC) is looking to appoint a Principal Clinical Scientist: Radiotherapy/Specialist Services to a permanent post. The Radiotherapy Physics group is responsible for the physics support to the Radiotherapy Business Unit at CCC.CCC has a large physics department with over 40 clinical scientists involved either in the provision of support to Imaging, Radiotherapy, including low-energy proton therapy, or in academic teaching. CCC has 10 Linear Accelerators (including a PPJV) across three sites with a Halcyon Linac offering Hypersight and SGRT due to come online in Spring 2025.The postholder will be responsible for assisting the Lead Consultant Clinical Scientists for Radiotherapy and Specialised Services in providing scientific support as directed. The postholder will be State Registered as a Clinical Scientist with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).The post holder will act as a Medical Physics Expert as defined by the ionising radiation (medical exposure) regulations with respect to all aspects of Radiotherapy.Candidates that are not on the MPE register will be considered if they have a portfolio that is ready for submission or at least requires only minor amendment.   • Specialist knowledge in radiation physics as applied in Medicine
  • Specialist knowledge of the techniques employed to measure the performance of a range of Radiotherapy equipment
  • In-depth knowledge of radiation protection legislation in healthcare and biomedical research
  • Evidence of relevant CPD and developing scientific practice
  • Awareness of national standards, professional and other guidelines relevant to the specialist area

ExperienceEssential

  • Significant experience in radiotherapy equipment quality control performance tests.
  • Significant experience in radiotherapy dosimetry and treatment planning.
  • Understanding of patient and staff risks Understanding of patient and staff risks arising from radiation exposure for a range of radiotherapy procedures. from radiation exposure for a range of radiotherapy procedures
  • Experience necessary to act as a Medical Physics Expert as defined in the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations.
