We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Principal Consultant, Mining Engineer to join our dynamic Canadian team.Your Role: As a Principal Consultant, Mining Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in providing technical mining-engineering consulting services and project-management support to mining studies, mine planning, ore-reserve estimation, due diligence reviews, and other operational assessments and audits. Develop technical information, write proposals for services, and generate business for the team. Support members of the mining team through mentorship and guidance on professional and technical capability. Maintain and develop a strong professional network to facilitate business opportunities.What You’ll Do:

  • Be a technical lead in mining studies encompassing concept, pre-feasibility, feasibility, and due diligence studies with multidisciplinary teams in Canada and internationally. Ensure these studies are delivered on time, within budget, and at a high industry standard.
  • Be a technical expert in mine optimization, design, scheduling, cost estimation, and operational support, assisting our clients to realize the highest value from their projects.
  • Conduct ore-reserve estimation, reporting, and sign-off according to the Canadian CIM / NI43-101 requirements as a Qualified Person, or to other international CRIRSCO standard public reporting codes as applicable.
  • Be a business-development leader. Maintain and grow your professional network to identify and secure job opportunities for yourself and the Sustainable Mining team.
  • Generate and prepare proposals following ERM templates, formats, and approach, developing work plans to meet client requirements.
  • Manage subcontractors who work on the team to ensure their work adheres to the scope and meets quality standards.
  • Conduct peer reviews of ERM mining-engineering reports to provide appropriate quality assurance with colleagues around the globe.
  • Support ERM’s broader service offerings around mining, such as the Permitting, Capital Project Delivery (CPD), and Liability Portfolio Management and Reclamation (LPMR) teams.
  • Communicate and interact with clients in a positive and professional manner that will establish loyalty and repeat business.
  • Deliver a high standard of professional work that reflects the client’s requirements and grows ERM’s reputation.
  • Be a team player. Mentor and supervise ERM mining engineers in Canada and in our global Sustainable Mining team.

What you Bring:

  • Tertiary degree in Mining Engineering is essential.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) status in at least one Canadian jurisdiction essential.
  • Qualified Person status for at least two commodities essential.
  • Possess a current unrestricted ‘C’ class driver’s license.
  • Desirable to possess a current First Aid Certificate and Defensive Driver Training.
  • Minimum 10 years of appropriate mining experience relevant to the responsibilities listed.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships in a consulting environment.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of best practice mineral-asset valuation and technical assessment approaches.
  • Comprehensive open-pit and/or underground experience as a mining engineer in operating mines (preferred) or detailed mine-planning studies as a consultant, covering a range of mining methods.
  • Expertise in mine design, planning, and optimization.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mine-planning software, Deswik, Datamine, Whittle, or similar, or demonstrated ability to adapt to these packages.
  • Awareness of N43-101, JORC, and other CRIRSCO reporting codes and requirements.
  • An understanding of ore-reserve estimation and auditing in multiple commodities.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment and complete assigned tasks at a high standard.
  • Ability to maintain the highest levels of client confidentiality and proactively manage any real or perceived conflicts of interest.
  • Experience in cost estimation including capital costs, operating costs, across a wide range of mining activities and support services.
  • Strong technical, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment and complete assigned tasks at a high standard.
  • Ability to maintain the highest levels of client confidentiality and proactively manage any real or perceived conflicts of interest.
  • Experience mentoring less experienced engineers.
  • Good interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, including superior report writing skills.
  • Ability to travel and conduct site visits.

For the Principal Consultant, Mining Engineer position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $121,600 – $141,709 CAD. An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where compensation may be outside of the range, based on the factors noted above.
