This includes:Local Area Energy Plans (LAEP) & Local Heat & Energy Efficiency Strategies (LHEES)District Heat NetworksRenewable & Low Carbon Energy AssessmentsHydrogen StrategiesBespoke research (such as our work for the Climate Change Committee)Location: Remote first, flexible working arrangements, with all UK based locations considered. Our flexible office collaboration spaces, for those wishing to use them, are in London, Exeter and Bristol.Term: Permanent, Full Time. We reserve the right to close this position early if a suitable candidate is found before the closing date, therefore early application is recommended.ABOUT THE ROLEWe are seeking a Principal Energy Consultant, with specialist experience energy system modelling, ideally whole system modelling for projects such as Local Area Energy Plans (LAEPs) and/or DFES.The ideal candidate will possess a deep energy systems expertise combined with high level of modelling skills and proficiency. You will have skills across a variety of modelling languages and platforms (e.g. Excel, Python) and have experience in building complex models in a commercial environment. It is expected that you will be capable of leading a team of modellers to get high quality outputs whilst keeping the team on-time, and on-budget.We want someone who is passionate about developing appropriate, value-added models to help local areas and the grid decarbonise.The ideal candidate will be comfortable with client management, able to identify what value the modelling brings to clients and able to communicate modelling outputs to non-technical stakeholders.They will be involved in delivering a range of other net zero projects such as: heat decarbonisation, heat network feasibility, and renewable energy assessments. The successful candidate will take an active leadership role in projects, delivering technical insights to clients through an open, trusted and consultative approach.They will support the continued growth of our business, through delivering upon our team’s wider commercial targets; such as through identifying future opportunities and delivering high quality tender responses. They will be provided the opportunity to attend, present and represent City Science at key industry wide energy and decarbonisation-focused national conferences.Key responsibilities will include:Project management (delivering projects in the relevant technical area to high quality standards, on time and within budget)Ownership of projects from end to end: developing customer requirements, developing and agreeing costed research plans, ensuring data acquisition, investigating raw data, delivering robust analysis, building tests and completing reports.Strategic direction on modelling methodologies, including embedding industry-wide best practiceResponsible for producing high-quality technical reports and presentationsConducting advanced data analysisSupporting the growth of our energy and net zero client offering and portfolio of projects, both supporting and leading the delivery of tenders as appropriateEssential Requirements:At least 5-years experience in a consultancy environment, with experience in developing complex energy system modelsProven track record in managing and directing successful delivery of complex energy projects and programmes as Project Manager or Technical LeadDeep technical knowledge and understanding across energy systemsComfortable programming in at least one language (Python, C++, JavaScript, etc.).
