Principal HVDC ConsultantWe are specialist consultants to the energy industry and our mission is to help power a more sustainable world. We are looking for an experienced HVDC professional to join us and support the developers, owners and operators of HVDC Interconnectors. We will fully support and encourage you to contribute to publications, white papers and to participate in task forces and working committees (e.g., IEEE, CIGRE).Our HVDC TeamOur team of cable and converter station engineers is renowned for technical excellence, providing expertise throughout the asset lifecycle—from project development to operation. We work with clients like National Grid, SSE, Eirgrid, and Hitachi, offering services such as technical specifications, tender evaluation, design assurance, and operational support. As a global team, we also collaborate with other regions within our organisation, including North America and Asia Pacific.What You’ll DoYou will be a trusted advisor solving the problems of our clients, inspiring confidence and building trust.
- Provide technical advice for HVDC developers, owners, and operators, with a focus on converter stations.
- Oversee HVDC system design, considering technical and economic factors.
- Develop technical specifications, contribute to EPC contracts, and evaluate tenders.
- Conduct design reviews, supplier audits, and witness factory testing and on-site inspections.
- Support operational readiness during the EPC phase and beyond, including asset management and policy development.
- Perform technical due diligence for asset divestment and regulatory reporting.
- Engage directly with clients and develop new business opportunities.
- Contribute to industry networking, thought leadership, and participate in industry committees.
- Occasional travel (domestic and international) for client meetings, inspections, and project oversight.
About you:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Chartered status or on track to achieve it.
- 10+ years in HVDC converter station systems, covering design, equipment, control architecture, specs, tendering, audits, reviews, EPC oversight, and operational support.
- Experience with large HVDC projects, meeting key milestones like financial decisions, contract awards, design completion, testing, and operational support.
- Strong knowledge in system design, insulation coordination, HVDC station equipment, and AC/HVDC interactions.
- Effective communicator with diverse stakeholders.
- Willingness to engage in business development and client interactions.
