SBU/Department: School of Physics, Engineering & Computer Science/EngineeringFTE: 1.0 FTEDuration of Contract: PermanentSalary: UH9 £56,021pa to £66,857pa by progression via annual incrementsAnnual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our offices between Christmas & New YearLocation: College Lane Campus, HatfieldMain duties and responsibilitiesTo make significant contribution to the leadership of research in the department, including gaining research funding awards as Principal Investigator, the development of the research environment in the department and across the University and publishing in peer-reviewed journal articles and other internationally excellent or world-leading publications in education. As a member of the senior academic staff within the School, the postholder will be responsible and accountable to the Head of Department (or other managers e.g., Dean, Deputy Dean or Associate Dean) for all duties including day-to-day learning and teaching, research, enterprise and administrative activities.The appointee will be expected to undertake research and contribute to the development of, and supervise and teach on, doctoral programmes in one or more of the following subject areas of Materials Science/ Engineering:

  • Advanced Materials and Advanced Materials Processing
  • Materials for extreme environments
  • Strategic Materials
  • Materials recycling and life-cycle analysis (LCA)
  • Aperiodic lattice structures
  • Additive Manufacturing

Skills and experience requiredThe successful candidate will have a professional track record in Materials Science / Engineeringand expertise and experience of teaching and assessing modules in the following Materials Science / Engineering subject areas:

  • Materials properties (strength, creep, fatigue, corrosion, etc.)
  • Strengthening mechanisms
  • Materials processing (forming and joining processes)
  • Automotive and Aerospace Materials
