The salary for this role is £67,023 (inclusive of a Market Premium Payment (MPP). Onsite working is expected for 3 days each week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working, including part time hours.Job DescriptionThis role is based at the following site; Culham, Oxfordshire.This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.The RoleAre you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? As a Principal Physicist you will play a pivotal role in performing and leading UKAEA research into either Exhaust Experiments or Integrated Scenario Modelling in support of the UKAEA scientific programme on MAST-U and other national and international experimental devices. You will perform and lead UKAEA studies, in the chosen field, in support of the UKAEA programme to design STEP and other national and international experimental devices. You will also be expected to develop and maintain partnerships with internal and external collaborators, advise senior UKAEA management on strategy in the research field, and represent UKAEA at international meetings. And also, communicating results through presentations at regular internal and external meetings, written reports, conferences, and peer reviewed journal papers.Additional Responsibilities:Lead and mentor Early Career researchers. Co-supervise and develop placement and PhD students.QualificationsEssential Requirements:PhD or equivalent in physics, engineering, or a closely-related discipline.Broad knowledge of tokamak-plasma physics with emphasis on the relevant field of research.Substantial research experience, international recognition, and an excellent publication record in the field of research.Experience in leading an interdisciplinary team of senior and junior researchers in an international research environment.An excellent team-player with an outward facing work-ethos as will work closely with scientists around the world.Additional InformationA full list of our benefits can be found hereWe welcome applications from under-represented groups, particularly individuals from black and other ethnic minority backgrounds, people with disabilities, and women.
