Principal Scientist, Quantitative Systems Toxicologist – Non-Clinical SafetyThe R&D Non-Clinical Safety (NCS) organisation is accountable for driving human-relevant hazard detection, risk characterisation and quantitative safety translation to advance the next generation of medicines to patients.The NCS organisation requires modelling expertise (i.e., Quantitative Systems Toxicology (QST) and machine learning) to contribute to transforming GSK’s approach towards predicting adverse drug reactions and the establishment of leading NCS platforms to evaluate the safety of new medicines.We create a place where people can grow, be their best, be safe, and feel welcome, valued and included. We offer a competitive salary, an annual bonus based on company performance, healthcare and wellbeing programmes, pension plan membership, and shares and savings programme.We embrace modern work practices; our Performance with Choice programme offers a hybrid working model, empowering you to find the optimal balance between remote and in-office work.Discover more about our company wide benefits and life at GSK on our webpageIn this role you willDesign and implement QST approaches to aid investigation of drug safety questions to enhance mechanistic understanding and provide translational risk assessmentProvide consultancy and training in understanding quantitative systems toxicology approaches across NCS and R&DProvide direction on generating non-clinical experimental model input data, embedding established modelling approaches and contextualisation of modelling outputs (in conjunction with conventional Non-Clinical toxicology endpoints)Work with internal and external partners to guide development and deployment of new QST modelsIdentify and implement state-of-the-art machine learning and statistical approaches to assist in the interpretation of cellular and molecular assay outcomesWork collaboratively, establish and maintain close working relationships with R&D modellers, data scientists and NCS biological scientists with contributions to experimental study designs to support relevant modelling approachesProduce high quality written documentation of methodologies applied (e.g. protocol contributions, scope of work), analysis results and interpretation for internal decision making purposes and inclusion in regulatory submissions as requiredWhy you?Basic Qualifications & Skills:We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:PhD relevant in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, Computational Biology, Scientific Computing or related fieldAbility to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary environment with good communication skillsExpertise in scientific computing and programming – such as R, Python, MATLABExperience of using quantitative mathematical modelling approaches linking mechanistic drug disposition and toxicology/pharmacology endpoints to support the progression of drug discovery and development programmesExperience in applying mechanism based mathematical modelling techniques and machine learning approaches in the life sciencesCore competency in numerical analysis focusing on differential equations and parameter optimisationClosing Date for Applications – June 23rd, 2024 (COB)Please take a copy of the Job Description, as this will not be available post closure of the advert.When applying for this role, please use the ‘cover letter’ of the online application or your CV to describe how you meet the competencies for this role, as outlined in the job requirements above.
