This role sits within the Directorate for Academic Services under the leadership of the Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor.The role leads on the educational aspects of the University Strategy. The Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) for Education will work alongside the Provost and the other thematic PVCs (Knowledge Exchange and Research) to implement our strategic objectives, facilitating a diversified academic portfolio, increasingly successful student outcomes and continued improvements in teaching practice.The role provides leadership and strategic focus for the education agenda across the University and externally. It is the senior leadership team’s primary expert advisor on educational quality and standards and academic development matters, providing information, insights and analysis to inform decision making at that level.The PVC for Education will work with Academic Registry, Quality Assurance & Enhancement and Learning & Teaching Enhancement to ensure the efficient and effective operation of our educational activity, including programme development, delivery, and enhancement, and the management of student and programme records. This role is also responsible for promoting improvements in pedagogical practice across our educational portfolio. Working closely within a team of three thematic PVCs, this person will be part of a senior leadership team within the Directorate of Academic Services, and will be responsible for supporting the Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor in developing our education purpose and practices. Collectively the Directorate supports academics in their research and KE activities and supports some of the University’s governance and decision-making committees, maintains academic regulations, develops and implements academic policies, oversees the quality and standards of academic provision and leads the development of education practices across the University.The Directorate is responsible for stimulating cutting edge research, impact and knowledge exchange and supporting a vibrant community of graduate research students, to increase the volume, impact and visibility of our research and business activities. We actively liaise with Faculties and researchers to support and develop research activities across all disciplines and provide related training and development opportunities. We foster interdisciplinary working to promote, advance and share knowledge with the overall aim of securing new revenue sources and contributing to regional prosperity.
