Reporting to the Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation & Global Engagement) [RIGE], Professor Geraint Rees, the Pro-Vice-Provost (PVP) will develop, consult upon and refine a vision for the development of the UCL Doctoral School, UCL Academic Careers Office and support for early career research staff. They will consider how the culture, training and environment in which UCL research takes place can support doctoral researchers and early career researcher staff, and provide strategic academic leadership in partnership with other teams for these developments.The PVP will review UCL’s approach to functions and processes relevant to the university’s broader research environment, working with the relevant teams and ensuring that these functions and processes are oriented to support this vision.The PVP will be a member of the UCL Research, Innovation & Global Engagement (RIGE) Strategic Leadership team.Please see the full Job Description and Person Specification.About youEssential criteria for the role includes the following qualifications, experience and knowledge:Academic standing commensurate with professorial status, including an excellent track record of
postdoctoral academic achievementsFamiliarity with issues and challenges relevant to the research environment as it is supported at UCL and
elsewhereDemonstrable record of outstanding achievement in a senior academic leadership role (for example as a
head of team or project lead), with the highest standards of intellectual capacity, integrity and professional
accountabilityExperience of developing and implementing strategic plans in a complex academic environment
Highly organised and resourceful under pressure, with the ability to define targets and prioritise competing
demands whilst setting and retaining high standardsVision, energy and genuine passion for the UCL mission and values, including our commitment to equality,
diversity and inclusivityCommitted to creativity, innovation, experimenting with new approaches and testing new methods, as well
as to continuous improvement in light of lessons learnedExtensive experience of successfully leading and managing a cross-functional team, including in changing
contextsSkills and abilities:Creative, energetic and enthusiastic, with the ability to work efficiently and collaboratively on numerous
