What we want
The Engineering Safety Officer will provide EHS support to Engineering faculty, staff, and students and other TAMU research and teaching areas with significant risks and hazards related to mechanical, electrical, pressure, noise, explosives, etc. The position will provide direction to the Engineering Safety Committee and assist in review of project safety Analysis (PSA). The position will also be responsible for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) program oversight.

Position Details: Ability to tolerate laboratory environments and moderate exposure to extreme temperature, dust, dirt, fumes, smoke, loud noises and chemical substances. Requires ability to wear personal protective equipment including respirator, protective clothing.
Required Education and Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in engineering safety, occupational safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ten years of experience in an environmental health and safety field or related.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-
Working knowledge of environmental safety and health rules, regulations, and standards.

Must have computer skills in such areas as spreadsheets, word processing, and relational databases, and must be proficient with the use of Microsoft Office software.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-
Public speaking/presenting ability.
-
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others as well as work independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Master’s degree or PhD in engineering, engineering safety, occupational health, occupational safety, or industrial hygiene

CHMM, CSP, or CIH
-
Experience in higher education or research environments
Essential Duties/Tasks
Program Management:
-
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to promote process and engineering safety to include a culture of safety and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and policies

Collaborate and provide guidance to the Engineering Safety Council
-
Provide subject matter expertise in process and engineering safety for laboratories
-
Provide program oversight for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)
Risk Analysis and Hazard Assessment:
-
Evaluate physical risks in research laboratories focusing on processes related to mechanical, electrical, pressure, noise, explosives, nanotechnology, etc.

Review Project Safety Analysis (PSA) as needed for process and engineering safety

Review construction and renovation plans for laboratories
Training:
-
Provide guidance and training on process and engineering control measures and PPE for process and engineering safety

Develop training curriculum as needed for process and engineering safety
-
Provide training as needed for process and engineering safety
Emergency Response:
-
Responds as needed with other EHS personnel to emergencies and assists with emergency responders as needed
