This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative, award-winning London-based Material Science company. They are leaders within their field and are entering an exciting phase of scale-up and commercialisation. Due to the natural growth of the business, they are looking for a Process Development Scientist (18 month FTC) to join the team.What you’ll be doing?As a Process Development Engineer, you will focus on developing bio-based materials and scaling their production. Working in a trans-disciplinary team, you will apply expertise in process development and high-throughput methods to create regenerative materials and optimize processes from lab to industrial scale. Key responsibilities include:

  • Experimental Design: Conduct high-throughput experiments to develop and optimize bio-based materials and production methods.
  • Quantitative Research: Oversee experimentation from lab to pilot scale.
  • Data Analysis: Interpret data and provide recommendations for product and process improvements.
  • Process Scaling: Optimize scalable, eco-friendly manufacturing processes through hands-on experimentation and research.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure project success.
  • Research Communication: Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders on progress and findings.

What they are looking for?Candidates must have a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field. Additionally, they should hold either a PhD in Candidates should have a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field, along with either a PhD in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry with 2+ years of industry experience, or 5+ years of direct industry experience without a PhD.Essential qualifications include strong expertise in materials processing, especially in bio-based materials, and a solid understanding of biological systems in process applications. Experience in process development, optimization, and scaling from lab to production is critical, as well as proficiency in quantitative research methods, high-throughput experimentation, and Design of Experiments (DOE). Experience in converting waste and renewable ingredients into materials-using skills such as biomass pre-treatment, pulp breakdown, and purification-is highly valued.What you’ll get in return?This role will be based full-time in Bermondsey.
