Course description: Coordination of the Diagnostic English Language Needs Assessment (DELNA) screening for all first-year incoming studentsPosting end date: April 22, 2024Number of positions (est): One (1) position.Estimated course enrolment: Incoming first year students across the FacultyClass schedule: Schedule varies and is flexibleSessional dates of appointment: May 1, 2024 – Sept 30, 2024Hours: This position functions as 1 HCE (up to a maximum of 230 hours).Salary: CUPE minimum salary rates for a half course (HCE), inclusive of vacation pay, are: Sessional Lecturer 1 – $9,457.90; Sessional Lecturer 1 Long Term – $9,930.79; Sessional Lecturer 2 – $10,121.77; Sessional Lecturer 2 Long Term – $10,326.62; Sessional Lecturer 3 – $10,362.76 and Sessional Lecturer 3 Long Term – $10,570.02. Should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevailMinimum Qualifications: include at least a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics, Second Language Education, or equivalent with strong written and oral communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to content-based instruction to advanced multilingual post-secondary students, experience with curriculum development and language assessment, a demonstrated ability to teach communication and to work as part of a team. Experience in professional language development assessment and teaching.Preferred Qualifications: include a PhD in an appropriate discipline (as above) and familiarity with engineering communication practices. Experience with FASE DELNA process and administrationDescription of duties: Coordination of the Diagnostic English Language Needs Assessment (DELNA) screening for all first year incoming studentsContact Registrar’s Office (RO) to request First Year Student list, manage list with regular updates from the ROHire TA and familiarize them with the DELNA website and dutiesSet up, schedule, and run DELNA exam sessions (up to 60) between July and second week of SeptemberUpdate Quercus DELNA site, send Quercus invitations to students; create DELNA group on the siteUpdate notification template letters and coordinate delivery via email with teaching assistantCommunicate with First-Year Office, student groups, First Year advisors about DELNA screeningRespond to student emails and inquires about DELNAOrganize lists of DELNA Band 1 and 2 students for distribution to appropriate instructors in ESP and PraxisOther duties as required to ensure that all incoming students have been assessed via the DELNAApplication Procedure: Applicants should submit:an application lettercurriculum vitae including the names of three refereesPlease submit applications by email to .Please include only one (1) Unit 3 application, listing all courses you are applying for; do not send separate applications for each course.If during the application and/or selection process you require accommodation due to a disability, please contact Chanelle Small-Reid atThis job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement.It is understood that some announcements of vacancies are tentative, pending final course determinations and enrolment.
